Southampton’s 1-0 defeat over Manchester City on Sunday evening was the Premier League’s most-watched TV game.
An audience of 5.7 million viewers watched the game on the BBC.
The peak audience across all platforms watched the Saints record a surprise win over last season’s champions thanks to Che Adams’ superb strike.
“Having the Premier League on the BBC has been great for our viewers”, said BBC Football’s Steve Rudge.
“We were delighted to deliver this game to the widest free-to-air audience.”
The BBC will show further Premier League action as Burnley host Wolves on Wednesday, 15 July at 6.00pm.
The following Sunday (19th July) the FA Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Chelsea will be broadcast live from 6.00pm.
