Bury host Sunderland at Gigg Lane this evening (Thursday) as the final fixture from the opening round of the Carabao Cup takes place.
The match will be shown live on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event from 7.30pm.
This is Sunderland’s first appearance in round one of the league cup since 2006/07, which ended in a 2-0 loss to their opponents Bury.
That match in August 2006 saw both sides receive a red card – Arnau Riera was sent off for Sunderland while John Fitzgerald was shown a second yellow for his goal celebrations.
Simon Grayson’s Sunderland kicked off the new season with a 1-1 draw with Derby County on Friday, while Bury were 1-0 winners over Walsall on Saturday afternoon.
These two teams met four weeks ago in a pre-season friendly, as a brace from Josh Maja and a goal from Jack Rodwell helped secure a 3-2 win for the Blackcats.
Kick-off 7.45pm
