The 2019 Community Shield takes place this afternoon as domestic treble winners Manchester City face Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.

Both sides look to strike an early mental blow ahead of what is sure to be another epic title race.

This is the first Community Shield meeting between Man City and Liverpool. The only other meeting between the sides at Wembley Stadium was in the 2016 League Cup final, with Man City winning 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

City have won just two of their past 12 meetings with Liverpool in all competitions, although one of those draws was in the 2016 League Cup final which they then won on penalties.

This is the seventh time in the Premier League era a double-winning side has faced the Premier League runners-up in the Community Shield.

The previous season’s runners up have won two of the past three (Arsenal v Man Utd in 1999 and Man Utd v Chelsea in 2010).

Today’s match will be shown live on BT Sport 1 from 2.30pm with live streaming on BTSport.com and via the BT Sport App.

Kick-off 3.00pm
