Sky News scraped its standard definition graphics this morning.
The SD version of the channel is now using the HD designed graphics, which includes a single line text graphic rather than a two-lined block graphic.
Also, the on-screen graphics are now being broadcast in a 14:9 safe area rather than 4:3 safe.
Sky said: “If you can’t see all of the on-screen text when watching Sky News, your television picture settings may be cutting the edges off our widescreen broadcast. To get around this, you’ll need to change your picture settings either on your TV or on your Sky box.
“If changing the settings on your TV set, try changing the picture format to a letterbox view (which will give you a black space at the top and bottom of your screen but will display the whole picture). Please consult the manual supplied with your TV for further instructions. Alternatively, if your TV supports “smart” view, this will automatically set the correct picture settings for you.”
Sky News has also moved their sports news bulletins over to Sky Sports News’ studios in Sky Studios (the Harlequin)
The sports news on Sunrise will remain in the sofa area at Sky News Centre, while the rest of the day’s bulletins come from Sky Studios. The sports news will also use Sky Sports News’ on-screen graphics.
