Al-Jazeera’s new international news channel has been renamed on the eve of its launch.
Al-Jazeera International will now become Al-Jazeera English. No formal details have been announced as to why the channel’s name has been changed but it is reported to be because of a key directors thoughts that the channel should be named after the language it is broadcast in as the main Al-Jazeera channel is already thought to show an international perspective.
The channel, which will be broadcast from broadcast centres in Doha, London, Kuala Lumpur and Washington DC and feature top names such as Sir David Frost, Darren Jordon and Rageh Omarr, launches on Wednesday November 15 at 1200GMT.
