We are fast approching a new year, which brings new opportunities.............what would improve Sky News in 2005?

Is there anything Sky News could do to improve?

Total Studio Refit?

New Presenters?

Overhall of Logo?

Any ideas? Post them below!!!!!!!

Thanks for reminding me - I hate the run up to Xmas

I think the current Sky News format etc. is very attractive - they have made mistakes with that in the past.

They are supposed to be getting a new studio sometime in 2005, which is rumoured to be double-decked. Cue literally broken news as presenters tumble down staircases?

I'd guess that with the new studio will come a complete refresh of the channel.

I feel that is a recipe for disaster, live news and staircases!!!!!

Who will be the first one to go flying down the stairs? Maybe Emma Crosby, bless her!

Sky News is getting a brand spanking new news studio and building as well as revised evening schedule. Knowing Sky News' usual trend, I would imagine that they will have new idents/logos and graphics.

As for presenters, doubt they'll dump any, but they might bring in new ones, if they do revise their evening schedule.

It has been a while since Sky News has had a major overhaul (excluding the minor studio refresh earlier this year). Their usual trend was every couple of years or so; 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001...So I think another one is overdue in my opinion.

I hope they do not repeat "Year in Review" over and over again this time.

Well there are 2 things that spring to mind.

BRING BACK SIMON McCOY AND NATASHA KAPLINSKY

AND

When there's a breaking news story would the presenters please stop the

"it's far too early to speculate".. then spend the next half hour doing just that!

Apart from that i'm quite happy with their broadcasting.

I don't think they'll change their logo this time round - the Sky brand has just had a refresh (Sky One and the main Sky logo) and the current sky news logo still fits in.

It's very distinctive as it is too.

I have to agree with the Year in Review thing, it is repeated far too often.

I quite like the current Sky News logo, and agree that is easily recognisable. But there is always room for improvement. I'm sure there is a new logo just waiting to be created.

I'm looking forward to Sky news next year. Its a bit exciting, a new look in a new studio and the arrival of Five News in their new studio too.

The prospect of a multi level 'stage' including perhaps a lift or spiral staircase is intriguing, it could bring a new slant to the term ' Breaking News ' ; Stunt man lessons for the entire news team may be necessary.

As well I,d like to see some interchange between the Five news team and Sky and have presenters guesting on each.

This all sounds crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!It is the news for christs sake - not a new series of the X-Files - double decker studios and lifts and stair cases!

One little suggestion I have.. they spend a lot of energy creating the Year in Review stuff.. a main programme and smaller reviews.. sport and politics etc, i think..

the only thing missing, which I think we'd enjoy more is a Review of Sky News' Year, looking at how Sky covered the news in 200x - the amazing live footage, stunning packages from the good correspondents and reviews of how they broke the news at the time it was happening.. that sort of thing.

...the reviews are nice to watch, but you don't get a sense of what was going on at the time (from a sky POV) Also, I'd like to see their bloopers video (maybe a toned down one!?) becoming another small review type prog.. the funniest/silliest moments from 200x. ..it's another prog to add to the whole review collection.

Just like the others, we'd see these once and get a little bored of repeats.. but! At least it's something different for the fans of SN who (may) watch it a lot..

Ta

kev

ps..

There is a prob, I presume with displaying graphics/straps from previous news events..? It would confuse people.. but still, gotta be a way round it.

Sky news has resorted to gimmicks over the years , news walls , helicopters etc, and they need some more to attract viewers , i cant see how they can they can be different from the others unless they perform tricks like this.

The other option is to make their news exceptionally better and that will cost more than a new set so thats their chosen path.

Instead of stairs, what about a slide !

I love your idea Kev. I would especially like to see more politics.

In the early morning I'd like to see a better report of the moring newspapers. For those of us who live abroad, it is very annoying that the slot is only given 30 seconds and then some presenters pick an obscure article in the middle of the paper to comment on leaving no time for the front pages. It is then irritating when they say to log on to their web site for a longer look. Some of us have to work for a living......!

I'd like to see a longer showbiz section also, and more frequently, like in the old days. I'd also like to see Neil Sean speak more slowly. I can't understand much of what he says.

I agree with Abby, a decent paper review would enhance the morning programme.

They should bring back Showbiz Weekly, Business Report, Your Call and World News, oh and Technofile.

I agree, a good start would be to bring back Simon McCoy and Natasha Kaplinsky. Then bring back the specialised programmes like "Your Call" to give a not only informative journalism but a sense of personal touch.
