I wish she was on more often.

She is on often, just not when you are watching.

Why is she no longer wearing her wedding ring???

She is now. Thought it was an engagement ring anyway. Hell...it may just be a ring ring?

If only I could contact her somehow.

Dude, get a grip. We already have one stalker-a-like!

Probably more than one!

Anjali has been on the overnight slot last 2 nights.

Last night she was covering the broadcast-live country presentations to the IOC.

The English translators for the French bid seemed to have a hard time keeping-up, despite the turgid, factual nature of the French presentation.

Chirac must be fuming tonight...

Screw him. He deserves everything he gets. Or in this case what he doesn't get

I just got back ot the US from a whirlwind trip to Amsterdam in a 48-hour turnaround, so I had a hard time sleeping last night in the hotel in Amsterdam. And, every time I turned on the TV there was a unbelievably captivating human being presenting the news on SkyNews - Anjali Rao.

There have been lots of talk of stalkers, etc. on this thread, but I certainly now understand the mysterious captivation she holds. To look at the pictures posted on this site just don't do her justice. There was something in the way she presented the news, looked at the camera, and smiled that was really special.

Too bad we can't get SkyNews - even on dish networks - here in the states.

Does anyone know what happened to IndoMedia and the site he was starting? Why hasn't this stie been able to get Anjali to do a Q&A or provide a profile? How come she doesn't have her own professional personal web site?

Perhaps she is not as interested as we are in seeing her career progress...

I don't know ... there was just something unique about her. Now, I am happily married to a beautiful woman who makes my heart flutter whenver she comes into a room ... and yet I can still look at Anjali and say "wow, she is truly stunning - almost freaky stunning...".

That does not make me a stalker... just very impressed.

Yes, she is unique. She has attracted a lot of attention since she joined Sky News.

"Stalker-a-like" - not stalker!

None of us (I hope!) are Stalkers - just fans who'd like to see Anjali do well, having been impressed by her! (And I expect that if Anjali ever did a PA to "meet her fans" some of us might go and pay our respects and say hi ?!), but apparently this is unlikely as we are told this kind of thing is not likely, as she wants to keep her career/privacy separate - fair enough.

Some might ask if this is possible when you have chosen to appear nationally/internationally on TV as a presenter - but this is the same debate as Actors who are doing an entertainment job and don't expect their privacy to be invaded in their personal lives - and it goes without saying that Sky News presenters do not use the media to further their careers when it suits them - unlike actors.

Which brings us to Indomedia and his anjalirao.com fan tribute site - he was asked to take it down I think, as it was believed contacts who said they knew anjali (or knew of her opinions) said that she is a private person beyond her journalism career who does not want a fan-site, or increased exposure/coverage/career, and has no interest in divulging her, quite-righlty, private life - beyond the odd email or letter of thanks. So I think Indo took it down in respect for those wishes ?

Although I think we all agree that Anjali is stunning-looking, and that's what initially makes you watch her (if a man - or women too?) when flipping channels, etc., that is only the start: there is then that "something" in her natural, friendly style - or maybe it's just because she smiles more at the camera than other presenters ? Add a pure English public-school authoritative news presentation voice/intonation which completes the package - and this makes her far more unique - and watchable - ("listenable ?!") - than many other Sky news , or any - new presenters !

As said somewhere else on (yet another!) Anjali thread - (and have you noticed the number of threads where people say "who is this ?" and it turns out to be Anjali?! the most mentions/posts than any other presenter I reckon) - it has to be repeated - Anjali was looking/sounding particularly good recently during the Olympic overnight bid coverage the past week - may have had a bit of a break for R&R which has done her good ? Somebody was saying she may have lost weight which seems to have suited her - I'd agree. (Plus the too-short haircut has grown-out nicely now! Somewhere else I read that she may be, or have had, a baby recently - and the terms "mother is glowing" seem appropriate - if that is true ?

Well all I can say is, what with her increasing role on Five news sessions also, maybe Sky are giving Anjali the increased exposure whihc may mean she will get offers to move/do more in future - more power to her elbow if she wants to do it!

Maybe I could start a sub-thread here: suggest new career-progression journalism jobs Anjali should do next after Sky News?

My suggestions to start off:

- Sky News daytime presenter!

- move to BBC News 24 for a daytime sofa / desk slot!

- be the new face of ITN News presentation - they need to save their ratings!

- present the BBC3 7pm News on the sofa with Patrick O'Connell, the current co-presenter (Paddy is formerly the BBC News24 World Business Report US finance reporter, before Liquid News and sometime LBC radio stand-in presenter!)

- Present Strictly Come Dancing and be the new Kaplinsky!

- How about presenting Countdown ?

- Or will Anjali end-up, like it seems they all do - on bid.tv shopping/auction channel - before moving to Big Game TV and presenting a premium-rate phone-oin lottery "interactive" rip-off money-making scheme.

Cheers, Phae.

P.S. Off-topic, but re. tv presenters: What happened to Sarah Hendy and the BBC3 Destination Three late night- "yoof" slots - BRING BACK THE FARSCAPE EPISODES THEY WERE SHOWING SUCCESSIVE NIGHTS WHICH MOVED TO AFTER Dr. Who - which has now ENDED !!!

P.P..S. How come none of these people talk about ME and *MY* career in the same way here ?!!? Lol

Cheers, Phae (a face for Radio - not TV!)

Thanks a bunch for the info. I checked it out and it works fine on my computer ... well, as fine as streaming internet video can be.

Anyway, so what times does Ms. Rao usually present? Is it just weeknights midnight - five AM? What about weekends? Withe the time change (six hours behind y'all), the midnight shift works great for me!

Her shift pattern fluctuates. She could be doing nights (UK time) or weekdays or weekends. Unfortunately she doesn't have a set shift.

More likely it was down to the fact he never updated, had little to update with, got bored of it, had little traffic who saw no change and was getting hit with the bill each month to keep it alive. I wouldn't keep it up. And seeing as he gave short order to whoever complained to him in the first place, I doubt it would be down to a complaint.

Maybe i'm wrong, maybe he did take it down out of respect as a result of an unknown third party who could frankly have been anyone. But I wouldn't keep it going under those circumstances, and not because it mildly annoys someone.

It would have been a lot easier to just start a group on yahoo

While it's true that Ms. Rao has appeared around the schedule, her most common slot does appear to be the 12 to 5am overnight slot.

She has done a few regular (Sat. afternoon/5pm type slots) for a few weeks in the recent past also - I note Johnnie (?) listed her as overnight/weekend presenter categorisation at one point.

I also think they've used Anjali to cover other daytime presenter's absence , e.g. vacation absence - as she was seen for a period on the "2-person" morning slots for a while last year - Sunrise, etc. - but recently seems to have reverted to her most-common overnight 00:00 onwards slot. That suits me for when I get in late!

Interesting that in her "2-person" slots she seems not to fit-in as well - the male presenter always looks awkward and inadequate beside her - she always seems to sit to the right "between" the male co-presenter and sports presenter (real or "mimicked virtual") - and seems to have a better rapport with the sportsperson than her male co-presenter!

Anyway - so what about people's suggestions here for Anjali's next career move ?! What would people like to see her do next - either at Sky or elsewhere - my starters for 10 are listed a few posts earlier... so I won't repeat again here.

Cheers, Phae.

Afraid not. I've not seen Anjali on the news for a while either - I usually watch late evening and early evening weekends. Maybe I'm missing her morning or early afternoon slots ? She has done some days around early afternoon (3pm BST - e.g. 7 or 8 am US time).

Maybe she is on vacation ? B)

Angali's handling of a breaking news story is poor.

I seen her a couple of times doing a breaking news story such as the blasts in Eygpt last week and she showed her inexperience. She wasn't confident, but i'm sure she will improve with time.

Hey sky.dub - Anjali is not new to this you know! I certainly would *not* say that she was inexperienced and "will improve with experience". How long has she been at Sky News now...?

Anjali is a 'veteran' of many years of broadcast news journalism - see her outstanding work as main anchor and award-winning investigative reporter (Toxic Trail) from Star TV (links/references v. early in this thread).

Part of her charm is her handling of breaking news... lets you know what's going on, as soon as she does. Doesn't "authoritatively talk rubbish" like many presenters do with breaking news, pretending they have more details, when they know no more than they, or the on-site reporter, who also has nothing to add "from the scene", already have told you !

Aside:

This obsession with "... and now we go over to at 10 Downing Street... what more can you tell us Andrew... ?"

To which the answer is actually NOTHING new/more - but he will still do a 3-minute piece to camera waffling about what has already been reported - and actually he is in the worst place, when the Press Office and the Sky News centre will be more up-to-date at the control centre with better communications- not the out-of-touch "roving reporter" at the end of a telephone, standing in the cold outside the office, government department, site of the blaze, etc.

Anjali doesn't play these games She tells it like it is, with her inimitable style !

Phae, i accept your point. And i agree - how could a reporter standing outside a buliding have more information than the sky news centre?

Who do you think is best at bringing breaking news...

Actually, I was playing-up just a bit - I think in some of my earlier posts in this thread we were talking about how Anjali wasn't quite as "effective" - although certainly not poor - at handling the breaking news story compared to some more seasoned/authoritative presenters.

She works better off pre-prepared scripts/autocue and presentations, and in interacting with her co-presenter colleagues.

So really, I do agree with some of what you're saying!

P.S. Do you mean which presenter is best at breaking news - or which channel!

Cheers, Phae.

Presenter...My favouite would have to be JT. He offers so much experience and makes it sound interesting. Other favourites are Martin Stanford or Julie. Actually one of the best at announcing breaking news I find is Liza Aziz. Still though, JT is the clear winner.

Can't say I follow the male presenters/names - only know Popplewell previously from Five News and the midnight "single presenters" - the one with the slighlty Ginger hair/side-parting , brushed back (can't be bothered to go the pic profiles to remember his name - Gerald somebody is it ?! He seems to work 80-hour weeks as he's always on whenever I switch over to Sky News !!!

And the two younger clean-cut blokes who seem to take turns to cover overnights when Anjali is not doing it... names forgotten also! If I can be bothered, I'll go check the names and report back.

But I still can't think who 'JT' is.

Anyway, this thread is about Anjali - not them !

Cheers, Phae.

OK...

JT = Jeremy Thompson. He looks too much like the b

I was thinking of the overnight boys:

Michael Watkins, Kevin Owen and Gordon Radley - Gordon always seems to be on! The other one who is "always on" is Allan King; he must do many more hours than some other presenters ?!

But I'd rather watch Anjali than any of them! And, frankly, it isn't hard to see why !

JT= Jeremy Thompson - always confuse him with David Bobin over on Sky Sports News - were they separated at Birth ?!

And Jeff Stelling on Sky Sports News is not dissimilar to both of them either !

But none of this is about Anjali. Has she co-presented with any of them - only Allan King, and possibly Gordon Radley, I think ?

Talking about Barbara Serra on another thread.

Would people agree with me that only Anjali , of the female presenters, has the cut-glass English pronunciation that aids news delivery, imho.

Whereas Barbara Serra's accent is all ove rhte place - italian, mid-atlantic twangs, anglo-american - all very disconcerting! Didn't like it at all and very off-putting and diverting. I suppose it works well enough for 2-minute reports from the fieldd from somewhere in Europe - but as Channel Five news anchor it's awful!

Whereas Anjali's accent/presentation style is far superioir - clearer, understandable and does not distract from the news presentation content.

Cheers, Phae.
