Sky News, ITV News - Johnnie reporting on 22 Oct 2007

ITV is bringing back News at Ten with Sir Trevor McDonald and Sky News presenter Julie Etchingham, according to the Media Guardian.

As reported here last week, Julie Etchingham is set to leave Sky News at the end of this year. Dermot Murnaghan is to take her place on Sky News Today from January 2008.

Sir Trevor McDonald, who left ITV News in December 2005 is said to have been lured back to be the main host.

It is thought that Mark Austin will continue to present the 6.30pm Evening News only.

So, what are your thoughts on the big news???

I've heard that News at Ten will have a new studio, graphics and music theme, and the first bulletin is likely to be 7th Jan '08.

NaT returns on Monday 14th January.

Apparently there'll be a lot of VR stuff on the News at Ten.

Not so much of a touch screen, more of a firm press screen

Very good! but not as good as CNN's election touch screen:

News at Ten seems quite a decent programme. Sir Trevor has a certain degree of gravitas, but Julie E always seems surprised when it ends after so short a period. She is accustomed to programmes of 3 or 4 hours, after all!

What makes me cringe is the artificial ITV News smile which she has been trained to adopt; all the ITV people seem to be forced to do it, and few can carry it off naturally.

Let's face it: Julie E was a fairly sour presenter on Sky. She can't have changed personality overnight!

I think the word you're looking for, my friend, is "serious". Julie was (and still is) at her best (and sexiest!) when she has her "serious" face on.

I'm really quite liking News at Ten. The format's really bedded in now and they're consistanly producing a solid programme. Good job ITN!
