I know its a bad thing but does it warrant non stop coverage? Is there absolutely no other news in the world today thats worthy of any coverage?

Well, Breaking News Alan Curbishley appointed manager of West Ham has just popped up....

I think they have gone rather "OTT" because apart from the Press Conference at 11, I don't recall any new news?

Sky on Monday weren't too bad.

Talk about the enquiries for 15 minutes, switch back to studio for rest of headlines, sport update [and more West Ham], weather, return to the murder story.

Instead of Murder Story [complete with US Cop Show style "Suffolk Killings" [or whatever it is]], Weather, more on the Murder.

I knew we were in for similar saturation coverage to what they gave the Lebanon conflict when I switched on at 6am to see Julie and Lorna on site.Is it needed?Have they given us anything different to what they would from the studio?

Sky always do this whenever there's one particularly big story, and it's usually with the domestic ones. It makes for very repititive and boring coverage.

It has been very boring. Ive been off work and in bed most of the day with the flu and this has made me want to be back in work.

Its so boring. Did they ever have any live pictures from the skycoper? Ive seen the recorded ones a hundred times but wounder why we dont get any live shots?

Im hoping Martin Stanford is in London tonight rather than JT till 11 as yesterday.

Tomorrow i think the only persenters there should be Julie and JT, and limit it to 30min per hour coverage.

As usual SKY provides obsessive - excessive - overkill coverage to a particular news event - and all other news reporting goes by the wayside. A week or so ago it was the poisoning of the russian spy and now.... Always with an eye on an possiblel TV award

To quote various comments from Digital Spy forums

"I think much of the coverage is appalling sensationalism, particularly from Sky.

They need to report the facts, rather than turn it into a combination of reality tv and the World cup, with all their experts, who know no more than the rest of us.

They will be loving this, and hoping for more murders to keep it going"

"We've had Sky News and News 24 on in work over the last couple of days and I have to say both channels seem to be revelling in this. Sky are the worst culprits with their sensational breaking news everytime another copper appears on the scene."

"Much of it is not helping, and I'm sure the Police going round doing their enquiries would rather not be followed by them. If I had been in that river searching yesterday I certainly wouldn't have wanted Sky following me.

It served no purpose at all, other than give them something else to show."

"blimey,did anyone see sky news

and there sort of "'bill.... like reconstruction room

with the reporter talking over pics and stuff

like an extra from the bill

it was just awful !!!"

"Ambulance chasing media will have a field day with this!

Hamper the police, giving the killer info and what and where to go next."

"they almost seem to "enjoy" it, i know that sounds sick but whenever S*** like this happens it reminds me of The Day Today "war" segment." It's the impression I get, especially from Sky News."

"Killings + media scaremongering = more tabloid sales / TV ratings. Sad but true that the media really do love it."

Can you imagine what coverage we might get if we find out the culprit is either

a) Tony Blair (or a member of his cabinet)

B) A paedophile,

c) A foreign lorry driver

d) An illegal immigrant

or e) the deaths are linked to Lady Di's death

And the icing on the newscake is to have her Holiness Kay Burley there turning a news story into an event!!

They should have had studio coverage rather than just outside

It's par for the course that they should go blanket on this (remember Soham?), and to an extent I found it interesting while things were still happening.

I wonder what all their other correspondants around the world do while this kind of thing is happening, twiddle their thumbs?

They keep saying how unprecedented this all is, but there have been plenty of serial killers over the years who have killed a lot more people.

I think they're already getting to the stage where they have looked at almost every possible angle to this and they're going to have to scale back the coverage unless something else happens in the case.

I will say one thing for it though, at least it's stopped all the Russian spy stuff.

I agree about the Russian Spy.

Yesterday was the first day they havent mentioned Polonium. One minute they cant stop mentioning it, the next day its not even worth a mention. If something big happens elsewhere today then you wont hear Ipswich mentioned again as they swarm all over the new story

So they've nicked somebody now. I don't think he did it personally, he's probably just the local nutter looking for some attention, hence the ridiculously self-incriminating interview for the tabloids. Says he doesn't have an alibi for the killings when nobody knows when they even happened.

I couldnt agree more. I would be surprised if it is him. The whole thing has a whiff of the nutter who confessed to the killing of Jon Benet!

He does seem a bit of an oddball to be honest. His MySpace page (which is rather easy to find) contains some bizarre photos of him, including one where he's holding a can of custard. Even if he didn't commit the murders though, one would hope that he'd lend some clues to the investigation.
