The BBC’s new £22 million singing contest The Voice UK launches tonight with the first show of the blind auditions.
Music superstars Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, will.i.am and Danny O’Donoghue take on the role of coaches on a mission to find and nurture the UK’s next great voice.
During the blind auditions, hopeful artists take to the stage while the coaches listen with their backs turned. The coaches have to base their choices on vocal ability alone. When a coach likes what they hear, they hit a button which turns their chair to face the artist, who lands a place on that coach’s team.
But there is a twist: if more than one chair turns, the power changes, and the auditionee gets to choose which superstar coach is right for them. If no coach turns, the auditionee is out of the competition.
Expect underhand tactics as the coaches go to extreme lengths in a bid to win over the very best singers.
The first show includes auditions from J Marie Cooper, Toni Warne, Shansel Huseyin and more.
Hosted by Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates, the first episode kicks off with an exclusive group performance by the four superstar coaches.
