I’m A Celebrity 2013 Contestant: Joey Essex

Joey Essex is a contestant on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity..Get Me Out Of Here 2013!

Age: 23
Date of Birth: 29 July 1990
Phobias: Any creepy crawly. “I wash my hands even when I have touched a dog.”
Missing any special occasion: Filming of the TOWIE Christmas special
Relationship status: Single

As one of the nation’s most popular reality TV stars, Joey Essex is pretty used to playing out his love life in front of the cameras and so as he prepares to enter the camp, he hopes there will be a ‘beautiful’ and single female contestant joining him.

And The Only Way Is Essex star has vowed to chat up a celebrity if she catches his eye.

“I am single at the moment,” admits the 23-year-old. “If there was a nice girl in there and I got on really well with her, who knows what would happen?!

“A bit of eye candy would be nice so hopefully there will be a beautiful girl.” He pauses, laughs and then stresses: “Please!”

For Joey, going on I’m A Celebrity is an opportunity that far exceeds his wildest dreams.

“Five years ago, I started watching the show and now I really can’t believe I am going to be going in the jungle,” he says. “I am so happy. I can’t say this enough. What an incredible opportunity.

“I am actually lost for words because I am so excited.”

Incredibly laid back and great fun to be around, Joey is hoping to play the camp entertainer. “I want people to have fun and have a laugh,” he says. “I am an active person and I can never sit still. I am always on the go and so I will be like ‘come on let’s go and play hide and seek’.

“I would like to think that I would be the joker of the camp.”

One of the reasons for accepting the offer, he continues, is to show viewers another side to his personality. “I want them to see who I really am,” he explains. “This is a chance for me to show everyone.

“In the jungle, I can be myself. I am not an argumentative person. I like to have friends.”

He plans to put one hundred per cent effort into every challenge, but Joey knows he is not very brave when it comes to anything that moves.

“I am not really scared but if a spider was by me, I wouldn’t want to touch it,” he admits. “I would not be scared for hours and I would be more like ‘argh’, but even if I touch a dog or a cat, I wash my hands. My reactions are going to be heightened in the jungle for sure.

“I don’t know how I will feel if I have to jump out of a plane. I can’t imagine doing it but I will just have to give it a go.”

He only told his dad he was going to Australia beforehand. “I have kept it a secret and nobody knows,” he reveals. “It’s been really tough and not even anybody on TOWIE knows I am going.

“I told my dad because he is coming with me to Australia. His girlfriend is joining him and he pretended they were going to South Africa so we could keep it a secret.

“I love my dad so much and he is really proud of me.”

Reflecting on how much his life has changed since he landed a part on TOWIE, Joey says: “It is just so mad and crazy. I know when people find out, they are going to go ‘OMG Joey Essex in the jungle!”

Aside from his family and friends, Joey says he will miss his home comforts like his bed. He reckons he will definitely try and exercise in the camp – so long as the lack of food doesn’t affect his energy levels too much – and his female fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as Joey definitely won’t be covering up.

“I will have my shirt off all the time,” he says, smiling cheekily.

“I will show people how to do some modelling in the jungle. That is for definite.” He is keeping open-minded on who will be joining him in camp, but he reckons if Justin Bieber were to walk in, he would be beyond excited. “Can you imagine chatting to him?” he adds. “That would be so cool.”

His decision to join I’m a Celebrity does mean, however, that Joey won’t be able to film the TOWIE Christmas special.

“I won’t be able to film the Christmas special,” he explains. “TOWIE is an amazing show to be part of and I love every minute of it, so it’s a shame I’ll miss the Christmas special, but going into the jungle is too good an opportunity to miss.”

As for whether Joey will do anything to win the show, the popular star says he just wants to saviour every moment.

“It’s incredible that I am even in this show,” he explains. “So to win would be a bonus.”
