Glee to pay tribute to Whitney Houston in Valentine’s-themed episode

The February 14th, 2012 episode of Glee will feature a tribute to Whitney Houston.

Not only does the Valentine’s-themed episode follow just three days after the singer’s sudden death, but finds Mercedes, played by Amber Riley, singing “I Will Always Love You.”

A spokesman for 20th Television told The Hollywood Reporter that series producers were considering adding a last-minute tribute to the episode, but it won’t be a part of the narrative.

The company also confirmed that Whitney Houston will be honoured with a tribute slide in the end credits.

Glee music supervisor P.J. Bloom told The Hollywood Reporter: “We chose to do the song and Ryan Murphy chose to do the song to honour one of the greatest hits of all time.

“Obviously we could not predict the unfortunately circumstances that happened this weekend but at the same time instead of focusing on the dark stuff, it’s nice to have an opportunity to hear her in this way and celebrate the magic that Whitney brought to this industry.”

As for a full tribute episode, like the kind the show recently gave Michael Jackson, Bloom said: “If we don’t celebrate her in one complete episode, I’m sure we’ll continue to acknowledge her music in the show.”

The episode will air in the States on Fox on 14th February and in the UK on Sky 1 HD on 22nd March 2012.
