BAFTA film awards 2014 – Tonight, 9pm on BBC One HD

The 2014 BAFTA film awards take place this evening at the Royal Opera House in London.

Leading the charge for the famous BAFTA masks is Alfonso Cuarón’s ground-breaking film, Gravity, with a total of 11 nominations including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Director and Original Screenplay.

12 Years A Slave and American Hustle are each nominated in ten categories. Captain Phillips has nine nominations. Behind The Candelabra and Saving Mr. Banks are each nominated five times.

Philomena, Rush and The Wolf Of Wall Street have four nominations. Blue Jasmine, The Great Gatsby, Inside Llewyn Davis and Nebraska have each been nominated three times. The Act Of Killing, The Butler and The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug have two nominations apiece.

Sandra Bullock has received her first BAFTA nomination as Lead Actress for Gravity. Oprah Winfrey has also received her first nomination in the Supporting Actress category for The Butler and Dame Judi Dench has become the most nominated actress to date for her performance in Philomena.

The awards will be shown on BBC One HD at 9pm tonight, where Stephen Fry presents.
