‘Allo ‘Allo! star Gorden Kaye dies at 75

Actor Gorden Kaye has died aged 75.

The star’s former agent confirmed he died at a care home on Monday morning (23rd Jan).

Kaye played cafe owner Rene Artois on the BBC hit show ‘Allo ‘Allo!, which centred on the fictional exploits of resistance fighters in World War Two in German-occupied France.

He appeared in all 84 episodes of the sitcom, as well as a stage version.

Kaye, born in Huddersfield in 1941, was an only child; his mother was 42 when he was born. His father was a wagon driver and in the ARP during the Second World War.

The TV actor suffered serious head injuries in a car accident during the Burns’ Day storm on 25 January 1990. Although he cannot remember any details of the incident, he still has a scar on his forehead from a piece of wooden advertising boarding that smashed through the car windscreen.
