The 2017 Cancer Research Boat Race will take place today as Cambridge aim to retain the men’s title, and Oxford the women’s.
Coverage of the race will be shown live on the BBC, fronted by Clare Balding.
This is the third time that both races will be taking place on the same afternoon and on the same course in what is one of the longest-established events on the British sporting calendar.
It’s the 163rd annual men’s boat race between the two University and the 72nd women’s contest.
The Boat Race course, known as the Championship Course is 4 miles, 374 yards or 6.8 Km long. It stretches between Putney and Mortlake on the River Thames in South West London, where over 250,000 people line the banks.

Cambridge extended their overall lead in last year to make it 82-79.
