Dermot Murnaghan Joins Sky News

Dermot Murnaghan is defecting to Sky News.

Its been reported that, Dermot has been offered a seven-figure deal that the BBC cannot afford to match. Dermot’s departure comes just days after Natasha Kaplinsky quit the BBC to join Five News.

He will present Sky News Today from 1st January 2008. The TV Newsroom understands he’ll be replacing Julie Etchingham, who we believe will be leaving Sky at the end of the year.

Dermot Murnaghan said: “I have always admired Sky News as a forward-thinking, credible news organisation and am looking forward to the challenges ahead with them. I look back proudly and fondly at the five years on BBC Breakfast and wish the team there all the best in the future.”

Head of Sky News, John Ryley said: “Dermot is, without doubt, one of the best broadcasters in Britain. Sky News is all about delivering up to the minute, insightful news in an innovative way and Dermot is a first class interviewer who handles breaking news and anchors set piece events effortlessly and intelligently. ”
